I bought this NetGear micro-Wi-Fi adapter as part of the resuscitation of an older Windows XP desktop computer that only had a wired Ethernet connection, once it was purchased many years ago. Now located far from any modem, an Internet connection requires the installation of WiFi functionality. This NetGear USB WiFi adapter proved to be exactly what I needed and at a price I could not resist. The hardware installation simply involves connecting the adapter to a USB port, and installing the software was also simple. The instructions provided with the unit were clear and the graphical user interface easy to use.
Now, when I turn on my computer, the adapter is automatically loaded and the computer quickly establishes a connection to my home WiFi network with solid bars. In summary, this is a very simple and inexpensive way to convert a computer that does not have a WiFi Internet connection to a wireless network device. No doubt about it. Only load the software. Plug in the micro adapter. Synchronize with the router. And here we go! So simple and easy, as it should be. It’s the smallest PC accessory I’ve seen or used; and it works very well I still have an old Dell desktop that works with XP, and when the internal internet card with cable is out of service, this micro adapter has solved the problem easily. Note: Be sure to unplug the Ethernet cable; You will not need it and this could interfere with the operation of this product. Also note: first I plugged it into the back of the USB port of the desktop computer and lost it once when I put it back in the computer cabinet. Fortunately, I have a band of USB ports very high in the case, near the screen, where the unique strength is excellent, even when our router is up. (Does not this product come with a USB extension cable, as some say?) In general, MANY THANKS to Netgear!

In most cases, the Windows drivers found here are “self-extracting” (.exe) files. Click on the desired file. When prompted, set the destination on your desk. Create a new folder and move the file to it. Click on the file to automatically extract the software and the associated files in your new folder. You can also extract or move these files to a floppy disk. Note that these files will only be self-extracting if they are run from Windows. After extracting the files to a disk or special directory, locate the installer, usually called “setup.exe” or “install.exe”, and then click on it to start the installation.
Sometimes, there is no installer because you have to install your driver through the Windows “Add a device” function. You can find instructions for installing drivers in the Windows Help file. Our Mac OSX files are also self-extracting. These files must be downloaded and executed in the same way. The installer will be present on the desktop once completed: click on it and follow the instructions to install it.
