Our performance of Yoga 720-13IKB can be summed up in one word: adequate. The processor of the device, the Intel Core i5-7200U, is well known to date and its 8 GB of RAM is sufficient, considering the usage scenarios specified by the Yoga 720-13IKB. Having said that, the 16 GB models are also available and, since the memory is not scalable, we recommend that you pay close attention when purchasing the device. Our analyzer unit was equipped with a 256 GB SSD, which should be enough for most users, but it certainly will not be enough for multimedia enthusiasts with large collections of music, photos or videos.

Fortunately, the M.2 SSD is replaceable by the user and can be updated. The data sheet lists SSDs with a capacity of up to 1 TB. The Intel Core i5-7200U is a powerful and efficient processor that delivers performance for everyday use. Its two cores operate at the basic frequency of 2.5 GHz and the processor presents a total of four cores to the operating system through hyper-threads. The Yoga 720-13IKB performed relatively well in the Cinebench R15 single-core test, but was overtaken by the Asus Zenbook Flip in multi-core testing. To avoid any thermal limitation, the CPU does not use its turbo boost at all and the frequency has remained stable at 2.5 GHz throughout the Cinebench R15 multi-core reference. Even under load, the 15 W TDP of the device has never been reached or exceeded. The processor has reached its TDP limit after the first execution of our Cinebench R15 multi-core loop. As a result, performance is not decreasing, which makes it possible to obtain very consistent Cinebench R15 multi-core loop results. The thermal regulation did not occur during our tests, which means that it did not affect the reference results. Even though the device’s multi-core performance did not meet our expectations, the Yoga 720-13IKB performed surprisingly well on our PCMark 8 benchmarks thanks to its fast SSD: it managed to outperform all of its competitors. Subjectively, the performance was very good and the limitations that we discovered in the CPU performance tests did not affect the daily performance. The device starts in seconds and is ready to use almost instantaneously. The provider chosen by Lenovo for SSD is Samsung, and our Yoga 720-13IKB was equipped with a Samsung PM961 M.2 SSD of 256 GB. In theory, Samsung specifies read and write speeds. Sequential writing up to 2,800 and 1,100 MB / s, respectively. When running AS SSD to test the performance of our evaluation unit, we measured a sequential reading speed slightly lower than the specified speed and a write speed slightly higher than the specified speed of 2352 MB / s and 1,180 MB / s. s, respectively. Since none of the competitors was equipped with an NVMe SSD, the 720-13IKB Yoga performed better than any of its competitors. We also want to highlight the very good read speed of the device, which reaches almost 60 MB / s, which is particularly noticeable when loading many small files.
