The Intel Core i5-7200U is intended to replace the old i5-6200U. The Kaby Lake soldered processor has two physical cores and can run up to four threads simultaneously with Hyper-Threading technology. Like the 6200U, the i5-7200U is a frugal ULV processor with a TDP of only 15 watts. The base clock is now 2.5 GHz, not 2.3 GHz. Thanks to Turbo, the chip can reach 3.1 GHz. Cinebench R15 determines an increase in performance of 11% for the Yoga 710-14IKB compared to the 710-14ISK multiple test. However, the result of a single core is only 3% higher. The overall processor performance of our test model is excellent and even the HP Specter x360 with a supposedly faster Core i7-7500U processor is outperformed in the Cinebench R15 Multi benchmark. PCMark shows that the system is on par with the previous model without any significant performance benefit provided by the updated processor. However, the overall performance of Yoga 710-14IKB is correct. It only takes a few seconds to load Windows with fast SSD. Lenovo equips the Yoga 710-14IKB with 8 GB of DDR4 memory, so there should not be any bottlenecks in this regard.
Lenovo uses a Samsung SSD drive for the system unit. This is an M.2-2280 unit and the manufacturer provides sequential read and write transfer rates of 540 MB / s and 520 MB / s, respectively. We verified the performance of the SSD with the AS SSD tool and obtained the following results: 508 MB / s (reading) and 478 MB / s (writing), which is slightly below the declared values. In practice, the SSD was reliable and we did not notice any performance problems. The Yoga 710-14IKB has only one M.2 slot. This means that you will need to replace the existing SSD if you need more storage space. Our test model is not equipped with a dedicated graphics card. Therefore, the calculations are managed by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. It was introduced with the Kaby Lake generation and should be a bit faster than the HD Graphics 520 used in the Skylake processors. The new generation can now also decode H.265 / HEVC Main 10 with a color depth of 10 bits, which reduces the processor load when playing HD video and provides more space for other tasks. The performance of the Intel HD Graphics 620 depends largely on the processor model and memory configuration. 3DMark Fire Strike clearly shows that, despite the improvements, this integrated graphics adapter can not track a dedicated GPU. The noise development of our test model is moderate. The fan usually does not work after turning on the system and only starts working when Windows starts. Our test model includes a heat pipe with a small fan, which can reach 37 dB (A) under load. Due to its dedicated graphics processor, the Yoga 710-14ISK is a bit stronger. The previous model is also equipped with two heat pipes to dissipate the additional heat from the graphics card. You can also get the Kaby Lake model with this GPU solution and the system sound should be quite similar to the previous model.
