While no tablet can compete with a traditional notebook in the field of native connectivity, the ThinkPad X1 tablet offers at least the basics with a little more flexibility than others. We have two USB 3.0 ports, one in real size and the other, a USB type C port, which also serves as a charging port. Some of the connections are also hidden initially: the mask on the bottom edge hides the docking port of the module and the crutch hides the microSD card slot. None of these is intrinsically problematic because they are not likely to be accessed on a regular basis. The optional productivity module, which we have not received for review, adds a standard size HDMI port, a Lenovo OneLink + port and a USB 3.0 Type-A port (as well as a secondary 2-cell battery). The AC adapter that comes with the X1 tablet is a very compact 45W type C USB adapter (184 g) with a convenient design. The unit includes a one-year standard deposit guarantee, although there are improved plans available. In addition to the two elements discussed below, as mentioned above, there are some other modules to expand the capabilities of the X1 tablet. These include a presentation module, a productivity module and a 3D image module, all sold separately.
Not to be confused with the rechargeable yoga pen, the ThinkPad stylus on the X1 now uses a single AAAA battery (it is no longer rechargeable) and has a thicker diameter than its yoga counterpart. The tip is also a bit shorter, although it is not likely to bother most people (it is still visible while drawing). The stylus sticks to the side of the keyboard cover through a removable loop or can be placed in a special basket that, interestingly, fits in the USB port of the tablet. There is also a third option (perhaps by accident) if the keyboard is not used: it can be magnetically connected to the bottom of the tablet, where it remains firmly in place, such as Surface Pen 4 Surface Pen. The pen worked well with us although it is not as complete as the Surface pen. To begin with, writing tips are not interchangeable, although most users do not escape. The tip of the Rubber Surface Pen on the back is also missing. The tip also slides more freely on the screen, thanks to the fact that the material is made of plastic instead of the rubber compound used in the surface pencil. Anyway, the performance is still pretty good with 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity and, together with the preloaded WRITEit application, entering text in almost any field with the pen is quite simple.
