Those who like the little companion from the point of view of the case, the input devices and the screen will now have to decide the level of performance that should be provided. Processors of the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge generations are available. There is the Intel Pentium B970, the Core i3-2370M (in the reviewed laptop) and the most powerful model, Intel Core i5-3210M. Alternatively, it would also be possible to opt for the twin model of the ThinkPad Edge E335, equipped with an AMD processor. In cases where the Intel platform is chosen, it is also possible to request the entry-level NVIDIA GeForce 610M, in addition.
Compared to the Intel HD Graphics 4000 processors in the Core i5-3210M, this does not bring significant performance improvements. Unfortunately, the considerably more powerful GeForce GT 630M shown on the Lenovo homepage is not yet available. For office use, watching HD movies or surfing the web, the smallest processor variant, in the form of the Pentium B970, should suffice. For more complex applications, such as CAD programs or graphics, it would be interesting to upgrade to i3 or i5. Our test configuration contains the Intel Core i3-2370M dual-core processor, capable of simulating a third and fourth core with Hyper-threading technology and, therefore, process 4 subprocesses simultaneously. On the other hand, a Turbo Boost is only available in the i5 and i7 processors. During the Cinebench performance test, the processor performance was at the expected level and combined the same good results with other laptops with the same processor configuration. Compared to the ThinkPad Edge E320 (with Core i3-2310M), the 64-bit CineBench R11.5 64-bit multi-core processor performance has been improved by 13 percent. In the OpenGL test, the new model can further improve this figure to 17%. In the case of a decision for the Ivy Bridge i5-3210M processor, another performance increase of between 25% and 38% is expected (multicore and OpenGL tests respectively). On the other hand, the Intel Pentium B970 processor would decrease performance by 23% and 24%. The competitor model HP ProBook 6465b (AMD) can only surpass the device tested by 37% in the OpenGL test, while it is 13% slower in the multi-core test. The result of the Cinebench test was identical to that of the connected power source and the battery power source; Therefore, maximum performance can also be used during mobile use. The PCMark 7 benchmark obtained 2079 points and is slightly better than its predecessor (2009 points). The good results are the powerful processor and the fast hard disk. This is noticeable at the perceived speed, so only short waiting times appear when you open Word, a browser or a video player. Updating to an SSD would dramatically increase the speed of the system.
