Lenovo offers two different 13.3-inch screens for the ThinkPad 13. The cheaper model is equipped with a TN display and an HD resolution (1366×768), announced with a luminance of 200 cd / m². The situation is a bit better for the FHD-IPS screen with 220 cd / m². The 1920×1080 pixels give a decent pixel density of 166 PPI on the small screen, which is quite sufficient for this size. It is also possible to work comfortably without climbing. The panel can even exceed the 220 cd / m² claimed in our measurements, because we determine up to 245 cd / m² and even 226 cd / m² on average. The ThinkPad 13 does not define any recording with these results, but it is sufficient in combination with the matte panel surface. The low black value of only 0.22 cd / m² provides a contrast ratio of more than 1000: 1 – very good. The LG Philips panel is not so bad in comparison, and can even surpass the control units of the two most expensive ThinkPad, the ThinkPad T460 and the T460 (both with Innolux panels). However, the ThinkPad 13 may also have different panels. Only the Acer Aspire S 13 and the Dell XPS 13 work even better in the comparison group. A positive aspect is the lack of PWM to control the luminance. Unfortunately, the backlight bleeds at the bottom edge and the lighter areas also appear at the top.
The average deviations of DeltaE-2000 for grayscale and color are already correct at 4.15 and 5.41, respectively, but there are extreme extreme values for blue colors (> 13) in particular. However, we can not see a blue cast. Grayscale performance takes full advantage of the calibration because the DeltaE-2000 value will drop to 0.73. We can also see a slight improvement in the colors, but the outliers are still there. The coverage of the color space of the panel is very poor, only 57% of sRGB and 37% of AdobeRGB. The camera is not suitable for editing (semi) professional images. The brightness of the battery is not reduced and you can use the ThinkPad 13 on the outside thanks to the matt surface of the screen. However, you should look for a place in the shade because the background lighting is simply not powerful enough to allow comfortable work in very bright environments. The stability of the viewing angle is very good, which is typical in IPS screens. We can only see a slightly brighter image at an angle from above. Our review model is already a well-equipped version of the ThinkPad 13 with a Core i5 and SSD processor. The only thing that can be updated is the memory (up to 16 GB of DDR4 according to Lenovo) and a free slot. The M.2-SSD could also be replaced, but the faster PCIe models are not compatible. There are also configurations with Core i3 / i7 chips or Celeron processors, which also have an effect on the graphics card. The Core-i models are equipped with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 processor, while the Celeron is associated with the HD Graphics 510 controller. Dedicated GPUs are not available.
