The ProBook was not designed for games. Only old games with a low configuration are not too demanding in Intel UHD Graphics 620. Even with the optional Nvidia GeForce 930MX, the ProBook will not be the best gaming machine. With an AMD Radeon RX 550 processor, the ThinkPad E580 has a definite advantage in this area. When idle, the ProBook 450 G5 fan shuts off and, even at low load, runs infrequently. Even under load, the fans remain very quiet, which should come as no surprise considering the size of the laptop, the low-power processor and the lack of an additional graphics processor.

The ThinkPad E580 with an Intel graphics processor, for example, remained equally silent. When testing with Prime95 or FurMark, the ProBook processor can consume 25W for 30 seconds, after which it is limited to 15 W. Therefore, the base frequency is reduced to 1.6GHz accordingly. During testing, temperatures increased to 174.2 ° F (79 ° C). We came to the conclusion that HP had defined a temperature limit there, noting how the frequency had dropped to 1.2 GHz thereafter. This means that, even if a temperature-based control is present, it should not create a problem during normal use, since a 3DMark11 analysis after the stress tests gave a normal result. The exterior of the chassis reached a maximum temperature of 45.5 ° C (113.9 ° F) under load, which is noticeably hot, but not extremely hot. The ProBook 450 G5 does not present what we consider exceptional speakers, although we have seen worse, for example, in the ThinkPad E580. ProBook speakers offer more volume, balanced sound and take advantage of its superior location. However, as is often the case, there is a complete lack of bass. As an alternative, of course, you can still use the headphone jack on the left side of the laptop. The power consumption of the ProBook 450 G5 is satisfactory and, for Ultrabooks, at the expected level. In heavy loads, the power consumption can reach 46 W. This is more than the 45 W provided by the included AC adapter. However, since consumption decreases anyway due to limitation, this should not be a serious problem for users. The built-in lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 48 Wh. This leads to a respectable seven hours and 43 minutes on our true Wi-Fi test. It should be noted, however, that its predecessor, the ProBook 450 G4, has achieved an even greater result. With a full charge of less than two hours, it would not be incorrect to say that the ProBook 450 G5 supports fast charging.
