HP supplies the ProBook 440 G4 only with a 65-watt AC adapter (45 watts for the model without a dedicated graphics processor) and service brochures. The manufacturer offers generic accessories, such as USB connection stations, bags or power adapters. The HP ProBook 440 G4 has two maintenance doors on the bottom. They are fixed by means of a Philips screw and additional plastic clips. So be careful when you take them off. It has access to the 2.5-inch hard drive, M.2-SSD (2280), WLAN module and two RAM slots. We are still not completely satisfied. You can not access the optional battery, the CMOS battery, the fan or the LTE module without further dismantling the bottom panel (secured by small Torx screws). The fact that we are dealing with an entry level professional device is also covered by the warranty. Unlike the more expensive premium products, where the warranty period is usually 36 months, HP offers only 12 months of coverage for the ProBook 440 G4. However, this period can be extended by HP CarePacks. A service in place of three years (UK703E), for example, is available at a fair price of 104 euros (~ 112 $).
The black chiclet keyboard (water repellent) is identical to the smaller ProBook 430 G4 input device, only the areas next to the keyboard are slightly wider. A dedicated numeric keypad is reserved for the 15-inch (and larger) model. We like the convenient pressure point and the silent line, so even a prolonged blow is not a problem. However, the slightly unusual design with the additional column on the right and the small directional buttons take a while to get used to. Two-level white background lighting is useful in darker environments. By default, this option is disabled if the keyboard has not been used for 15 seconds, although this setting can be changed in the BIOS. There are also other parameters (such as swap Fn and Ctrl, using the default secondary function keys). In the upper right, two additional function keys are useful for speakers and wireless connections. Unlike the more expensive business laptops, ProBook 440 G4 users do not have an additional TrackPoint. The mouse replacement is a ClickPad Synaptics. Measures 6.5 x 11 cm and supports gestures with up to four fingers. However, you can not use the full panel of Synaptics controllers. The handling is good in general, but you will have to overcome a small resistance of the slightly rough surface, so that the small movements of the cursor do not always run perfectly.
