Well, I have this to capture the wifi signals from further away, across the street, etc. I paired it with an active USB extension cable and exchanged one of the antennas with an Alpha 7Dbi panel antenna, which seems to work much better than the standard 6 dBi antennas provided. Do not forget that the Alpha panel antenna is designed for directivity, while the ones that come with it are omnidirectional, which makes sense. Before using this device with the Alpha antenna, my higher download speeds were about 600 kb / s, which is not good at all because the network is far away. But after using this device, I gained 1.3 MB / s! Great improvement!

I tried to extend it further using a USB to RJ45 (Ethernet) adapter, but in this way it was very unstable, it only remained connected intermittently, if it was turned on. However, for the price, this thing is good. It has USB 3.0, two antennas, a good chipset (Realtek) and can detect a 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz band. You may want to try other antennas, however.

In most cases, the Windows drivers found here are “self-extracting” (.exe) files. Click on the desired file. When prompted, set the destination on your desk. Create a new folder and move the file to it. Click on the file to automatically extract the software and the associated files in your new folder. You can also extract or move these files to a floppy disk. Note that these files will only be self-extracting if they are run from Windows. After extracting the files to a disk or special directory, locate the installer, usually called “setup.exe” or “install.exe”, and then click on it to start the installation.
Sometimes, there is no installer because you have to install your driver through the Windows “Add a device” function. You can find instructions for installing printers in the Windows Help file. Our Mac OSX files are also self-extracting. These files must be downloaded and executed in the same way. The installer will be present on the desktop once completed: click on it and follow the instructions to install it.
