Note: this is the DG40S model, since I had bought it for a Windows 7 computer. My goal was to find a USB Bluetooth adapter that would allow my PS4 DualShock 4 to connect to my PC without the need of the DS4Windows software. Also keep in mind that the DG40SA sold here is clearly advertised as not compatible with Windows 7, so I have not tested it. I’m happy to announce that everything works perfectly! However, as described here and on the Avantree website, this adapter is NOT exactly plug and play when used with Windows 7 (apparently with Windows 10), but it’s close enough! Very simple to work. Simply go to your support site, click on the DG40S icon, then look for the link titled “Last driver for Windows 7”. Before clicking on it, keep in mind that there are also many useful support links here, in case you have problems. When you are ready, click on the Windows 7 driver link to display a new list of useful links, which often contain videos showing the installation process step by step. YOU MUST SEE A VIDEO OR TWO HERE! It will only take a few minutes, he promised. BUT LOOK BEFORE INSTALLATION! LOL. It’s just a series of clicks left / right / double that are needed, do not take more than 2 minutes, but since its interface is artistically designed in a 1982 programming style, it will save time if you watch First a video. NOTE: ALL THE STEPS INDICATED IN THE CONNECTION VIDEOS (Keywords: EVERY TWO OR THREE STEPS) MUST BE CARRIED OUT WHILE THE DUALSHOCK CONTROLLER IS IN MATCHING MODE! To turn it on, press and hold the PS center button and the Share button AT THE SAME TIME for a few seconds until the DualShock LED starts blinking. This means that he is looking for Bluetooth devices to associate with. You may have to return to pairing mode if the lights stop blinking. Either way, before you know it, your DualShock 4 will be connected, also with a wide range. It works perfectly after hours of play!
It turned out that I needed technical assistance for something I had done (all I needed was a reboot of two or three things that I missed). I called your support number (it is conveniently displayed on the main screen of the driver software after installation) and was set up almost immediately with the following technical support through a live conference to share screen! They sent me an email link in which they asked me to download the Chrome extension called GoToMeeting Pro Screensharing. Pretty soft / legitimate extension, nice interface. I also had the option to select specific windows to share the screen, or simply enable share the entire screen. Anyway, some people on the phone guided me through some steps I followed (follow the steps above and everything will be fine, hahaha). They were super helpful and friendly. Pretty amazing customer service, among the best I’ve ever met of any business, no kidding. Anyway, if you use this with Steam, be sure to follow the online guides to find out how to do it. As ridiculously simple, just open Steam, switch to Big Picture mode, click on the Settings -> Driver Settings button and make sure the “PS4 Configuration Support” box is checked. You may need to restart Steam or restart the controller’s Bluetooth connection, but anyway, yes, I was just an idiot for a few minutes …
In most cases, the Windows drivers found here are “self-extracting” (.exe) files. Click on the desired file. When prompted, set the destination on your desk. Create a new folder and move the file to it. Click on the file to automatically extract the software and the associated files in your new folder. You can also extract or move these files to a floppy disk. Note that these files will only be self-extracting if they are run from Windows. After extracting the files to a disk or special directory, locate the installer, usually called “setup.exe” or “install.exe”, and then click on it to start the installation.
Sometimes, there is no installer because you have to install your driver through the Windows “Add a device” function. You can find instructions for installing drivers in the Windows Help file. Our Mac OSX files are also self-extracting. These files must be downloaded and executed in the same way. The installer will be present on the desktop once completed: click on it and follow the instructions to install it.
