Remember when we saw the Zephyrus that was launched almost a year ago? This notebook has a completely different design, and the new Zephyrus M closes the gap between new designs and traditional computers. This is an interesting gaming laptop and we are here to guide you on the trip by asking what to expect from this gaming laptop called ASUS ROG Zephyrus M (GM501). On the first inspection, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M comes with a fairly large number of ports. I was impressed by the inclination of ROG Zephyrus M and ASUS who did not sacrifice any ports. The USB 3.0 port is only a little thinner than the laptop itself! On the left side, we have a large vent, a DC power plug, a full-size HDMI port, a 3x USB-Type A port and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
On the right side you will find another USB 3.0 Type A port with a single Thunderbolt 3 port, another large vent and a Kensington lock. In fact, it lacks DisplaytPort. ASUS could have placed a mini-DP on the left side, but they did not. You may have wondered why there was a red LED. The Zephyrus M actually has a bright design where the LEDs will glow from the bottom if the laptop is connected to the power supply and with the lid open. The speakers are surprisingly good, by the way. But that does not matter, let me explain why later. Good – the screen. The Zephyrus M ROG comes with a 15.6-inch IPS panel that offers a refresh rate of 144Hz and a GTG response time of 3 ms while covering 72% of the NTSC color space. It is an incredible screen, and the colors of the ROG Zephyrus M are also beautiful. In some cases, I think it’s a bit oversaturated, but in general, I like the screen. And it also supports G-Sync. However, perhaps due to the characteristics of this monitor, the ROG Zephyrus M does not include the thin NanoEdge cache of ASUS. This gives ROG Zephyrus M a relatively large footprint. Remember the traditional design, where the keyboard is close to the screen and a large trackpad on the bottom edge? And the Zephyrux (GX501), which does not have a dedicated trackpad area but is on the keyboard, and the entire keyboard moves down to make room for the cooling system? The Zephyrus M is actually a bridge between these two configurations of laptops. It has some strange peculiarities here and there, but it was surprisingly easy to live with them. Let’s start with the trackpad.
